Periodic inspections of pressure equipment

Periodic inspections of pressure equipment are an important part of ensuring the operational safety of the pressurized system. The use of pressure equipment is regulated in the Pressure Equipment Act 1144/2016 and the Government Decree 1549/2016.

Periodic inspections ensure the operational safety of the pressure equipment. Inspections prevent accidents caused by the deterioration of materials such as steel (corrosion, cracks, etc.) caused by operating conditions, contents or the environment. Other factors affecting safety are also checked. These include, for example, the qualification of the supervisor, deputy supervisors and users of the pressure equipment, the solutions and reliability of safety equipment and systems, such as automation, and the condition of external structures. The periodic inspection of a steam boiler in particular usually includes an assessment of the entire boiler plant.

Typical equipment covered by periodic inspection:

  • Compressed air tanks
  • Pipelines
  • Hot water boilers, steam boilers, hot oil boilers
  • Industrial and power plant pressure vessels
  • Process reactors
  • Heat exchangers
  • Autoclaves
  • Drying cylinders
  • Refrigerators and heat pumps

Periodic inspections are carried out for pressure equipment whose usage values exceed the registration limit. The registration limits are presented in regulation Vna 2016/1549.
