Automation assessment at existing facilities

The automation evaluation is a statutory inspection (Pressure Equipment Act), which must be performed in connection with the change inspection of the pressure equipment.

The assessment ensures compliance with the regulations of the pressure equipment safety-related system (TLJ), safety and correct installation, use and maintenance.

Automation evaluation steps:

  1. In the first phase, the security automation design is evaluated based on the documents. It is ensured that in the facility’s hazard and risk analyses, the hazards related to the controllable object and its normal control and regulation have been identified under all conditions and in reasonably expected disturbance situations, and the safety integrity level determinations have been made correctly and the planned automation corresponds to the integrity level determinations.
  2. In the second stage, it is assessed that the overall capability planning is progressing correctly in such a way that it has taken into account all the functional requirements for the system and the safety integrity requirements. Subscriber submit the necessary documents in the first step.
  3. The third phase involves factory testing (FAT) and its purpose is to ensure that the system is integrated and tested correctly and meets the required level of integrity.
  4. The fourth stage is the evaluation of the installation implementation and testing of the system in connection with the commissioning tests (SAT). It is assessed that all TLJs and external risk reduction measures have been installed correctly and that the entity formed by TLJs and external risk reduction measures corresponds in all respects to the eligibility definition of overall safety.
  5. The fifth step is the usage evaluation and it is done after a suitable time system implementation. It is estimated that the whole, TLJ, its software and external risk reduction means are used, maintained and is modified correctly
